Admission Requirements


Harrison Middleton University is a distance learning community. Admissions criteria has been established to ensure that applicants possess the ability to be successful in a distance learning environment. All coursework at Harrison Middleton University is done entirely at a distance. Bachelor of Arts Program

An applicant for the bachelor's program must have a high school diploma or its equivalent. American College Test (ACT) and Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) scores are not required for admission to the bachelor's degree program. The bachelor’s program is designed to benefit students who have already earned a minimum of 30 semester credits and completed their general education requirements (or an associate’s degree) from an appropriately accredited institution.

The following is required to be received by the university to be considered for admission.

  • Application Form
  • Application Fee
  • Official Transcripts - From all previously attended colleges and universities.

  • Scanned Color Copy of a Government Issued Identification (e.g. driver's license or passport)
  • Telephone Interview - Upon submission of the admission materials, the applicant will complete a telephone interview with the Dean of Undergraduate Studies.

Master of Arts Program

An applicant for the master's program must have a bachelor's from an institution accredited by an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the United States Secretary of Education or an institutional agency recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or its successors. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and Miller Analogies Test (MAT) scores are not required for admission to the master's degree program.

  • Two Letters of Academic Recommendation - The letters of recommendation should be written by persons competent to judge the applicant's probable success in a doctoral program. These letters are generally written by the applicant's former professors who are able to give an in-depth evaluation of the applicant's strengths and weaknesses with respect to academic work. Additional recommendations may come from employers or supervisors who are familiar with the applicant's work experience. All letters of academic recommendation must be written in letter format and may be submitted to the university by the authors either through mail or email (as an attachment).
  • Academic Writing Sample - Please submit an academic writing sample (minimum of five paragraphs) on one of the 102 Great Ideas listed on the website. Please be sure to review the beginning essays of each Great Idea located in the Syntopicon of the Great Books of the Western World to aid in this writing sample.
  • Telephone Interview - Upon submission of the required admission materials, the applicant will complete a telephone interview with the Dean of Graduate Studies.

Harrison Middleton University offers open enrollment year round. Interested applicants may apply, enroll, and begin a degree program at the university anytime.

Harrison Middleton University is working to meet state authorization requirements in states outside of Arizona. We will continue to serve out-of-state students while working with individual state authorization agencies to meet institutional authorization requirements. If you have questions about Harrison Middleton University’s authorization status in a state, visit the State Authorization page of the website or contact the Registrar at Registrar@hmu.edu.

Harrison Middleton University has made the admission application and enrollment agreement forms available in fill-able PDF format. Payment is due upon a student's acceptance into a degree program. Tuition is paid on a course-by-course basis, or an applicant may choose to participate in the university's interest-free per-course tuition payment plan.
